A Mustard Seed?

Five-foot-five standing at the bottom of a mountain. Looking up wondering how I will ever accomplish this task. Seeing all the jagged edges and energy it will take to reach the top. Can you picture it? Asking who, what, when, where and how?? But what is a mountain? A mountain is a large natural elevation of the earth's surface rising ABRUBTLY from the surrounding level; a large steep hill. Doesn’t it feel like mountains POP up abruptly in life all the time? Well, this time when a mountain POPPED up in my life the Lord said, “It’s time to pass this test.” He took me to Matthew 17:14-20 (NIV), so let’s read the passage together.

“When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.” “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. Then the disciples came to Jesus in the private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Sometimes I sit back and think “Do you really have faith; do you really believe the words you sing?” Then I read this passage and was able to see what God is asking from us all. He’s asking for us to truly believe that we have power living inside of us and with that power, nothing will impossible. I laughed while reading this passage because I could imagine Jesus looking at the disciples and saying “Really, Guys??” “You walk with me, you see what I’ve done, and you still don’t get it lol. I have not called you to just walk with me. I’ve called you to believe. Believe that the same power that I have you have living inside of you. If you believed you could have healed his son. You could do anything."

As I read this the lord began to speak to me and I rushed to write it down and I believe this is for you too. He said, “Do you know how hard it is to move a mountain with your strength??? It’s impossible, but when you believe in me the impossible become possible. I don’t just say things to hear myself talk, I give you this example of moving a mountain to make you think of just how much I can do through you.” I then see a vision of myself at the bottom of the mountain looking up and seeing the enormous sight before me and I put my head down. I began to think, and I started to talk to God about needing his help to get up and over this mountain. Just then I felt something next to me and it was God. He said, “Quinika you asked so I’m here, let’s conquer this mountain.” His power met me right there and I was able to climb to the top of that mountain with him. As I climbed the mountain I just kept saying I can do all things with you by my side. This seems so easy, but so many times I forget to invite him into every mountain in my life. When we invite him in we invite the power to do the impossible.

We are called to have faith and to know that with God we can do all things, not be a part of the unbelieving and perverse generation. What does it mean to be unbelieving and perverse? Here are the definitions below.

Unbelieving: not believing someone or something.

Perverse: contrary to the accepted or expected standard or practice.

Lord knows I don’t want to be either of these words. I want to be an example of a woman that knows who she serves and because of that knows the strength she possesses because of her father. A strength that is activated when she must only have faith the size of a mustard seed. That’s what I want and that’s what I want all of us to walk in. I don’t want to just walk with him, I want to be in intimate conversations with him, worship him and experience the power that’s sitting right in front of me if I would just take a hold of it. The disciples asked, and Jesus gave all of us the answer to why we don’t see things moved around in our lives and healed. For us to see things move we must first believe. Do you believe you can move mountains? I do now. Let’s not be a generation that is unbelieving and perverse, let us be mountain movers! This goes so far beyond problems we’re facing in life. With faith, NOTHING is IMPOSSIBLE for you. That means nothing we imagine is impossible when we have faith in our God. That makes my heart smile knowing that we serve a God that doesn’t look to keep anything from us if we obey and have faith in him. He will make the impossible possible for those who love him. So to those mountains, we are all facing we say MOVE!!
